Genius Marketing

The crazy mail-order catalog Hammermacher Schlemmer was recently advertised subtly on Hannah Montana this past week. The episode aired during a 1.5 hr cross-over special with Wizards of Waverly Place and Suite Life on Deck. What was so genius is that the same day that this show aired, we received the newest Hammermacher Schlemmer catalog in the mail. I don't remember the last time we got this catalog, so this timing was pretty darn near perfect and a little blatant. My kids? Now all over this catalog and fascinated with everything in it.

School's out for summer

Today was the last day of school! Kids are excited, and I'm just glad that the craziness of June is halfway over.

It's all about the band (or not)

The girl has chosen her instrument for band next year: the saxophone! Yeah! I love the sax. I was hoping she would pick either sax or trumpet for very selfish reasons: we have both instruments in the house. The sax is courtesy of my wonderful BIL, who hasn't used it in very many years, and the trumpet is courtesy of ... the boy, who much to my chagrin, has chosen NOT to take band next year. I tried and tried to convince him otherwise, but he wasn't having it. It's an elective next year in school, which was very disappointing to me. He was given a choice of many things, including: band, orchestra, chorus, art, woodshop (disguised as "technology and set construction"), home ec (disguised as "family and consumer sciences", Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Microsoft FrontPage, and several others. He could only choose two of the above, and Band counted as both options if you chose that. We argued for a week but I gave in: I didn't want to force him to do it, and I wanted him to enjoy school.
The girl is psyched to play sax though! We'll see how long that lasts - hopefully more than three years.

I love this weather.

Windy, cool, right before the rain. Fast-moving clouds. Spooky moon. Can't beat it. I can sit outside for hours.

I still believe in fairies.

The girl lost a canine tooth today. She came home, proudly showed me the tooth, and said, "How much money will I get for this... MOM? Huh, MOM?"

This made me sad. I mean, I still believe in the tooth fairy, why shouldn't she? I promptly told her that I didn't know what she was talking about, and if she didn't believe in fairies, I guess she wouldn't get any money.

So, when the tooth fairy came to visit, she found a note:

Dear Tooth Fairy, I'm sorry I thought you were mom. I ♥ U.

Much better.
